To tinker or not....., nope just tinker!

Right I did tinker and change my clubs and it seems to have worked! I was worried about gapping and consistency. This will focus on gapping, although anecdotally I feel like consistency has also been altered. More to follow when I have data.

First change, possibly not the biggest was a change of irons. I was intrigued by the Ascending Mass Technology (AMT) shaft in how this could benefit long irons, whilst also having heavy short irons and wedges. I remember the Mizuno shaft fitting tool fit me into the AMT white many years ago, but I didn't persue it. Looking at what irons in the second hand market have AMT shafts with 130g wedge weights (over the top/reroute tendency being fought), Titleist, Cobra and Ping stood out. Ping's AWT shafts were a little light on paper thus following a typical for me obsessive search, I decided on Titleist. In particular AP2. Standard lofts and lengths I hoped would assist with gaping and reducing the unexpected low spin bomb.

Here's my new yardages. Much more predictable.
Also note change number 2. Significantly higher driver numbers. In part driven by summer fairways, but I believe more importantly shortening the shaft by 0.75inches. I increased the head weight by 5 grams to account for the change in swing weight too. This has lead to more consistent strike and more confidence swinging fast again.

Only my last two rounds, but clearly there's a gain in distance and accuracy. The penalties are unfairly raised by some attempts with the 3 wood off the tea heading out of bounds, so will even out in the long run. Also a reason to keep tinkering! 😜

Underpinning all of the changes though is a feeling. I feel I've found something. I can throw the club at the ball with the freedom that it's not incorrect. What comes out is often good, sometimes great, but even when it's bad I don't have to doubt it.
